SHOW ME! How many times does a teacher say this when reading? I don't know how many dozens of times I had to ask my kids to do this. Their response? "I read it." *palm to forehead*
Let's just be real. Sometimes we want to run our over worked brains into the nearest wall! But, how do we combat these responses? Well, in my EL training this summer (I am certified EL now ;) I came to see the benefit of cue cards/sentence starters/etc. We did SIOP training at my school last year and these were brought up! Basically, you write a sentence starter for kids to use when answering a question/concept of some sort. My team was using them a ton last year, but honestly, I didn't use them as much as I should have. I didn't know what a good sentence starter was. So, this summer I worked on a concept of text evidence ... more than "I just read it" response. These are the cues I came up with!
